Scenic road trips across the U.S. are still the thing that keeps me sane, honestly. Right now I’m in my place near Denver (Aurora technically, close enough), it’s kinda gray out, and I’m staring at these pics thinking damn I need to get back out there. These drives are where everything slows down—or speeds up, depending on how late I stayed up the night before packing. I’ve forgotten water, argued with GPS, eaten terrible truck stop food, but the views? Worth every dumb mistake.
Here’s my unpolished list of scenic road trips across the U.S. you can’t miss, straight from someone who’s done them wrong and right.
Why I Can’t Quit Scenic Road Trips Across the U.S.
That feeling when the city fades and it’s just road and sky—nothing else matters. I went on one after a rough year, solo, no plan, just driving till I felt better. Cried at a random overlook once (don’t tell anyone). Pulled over too much, took bad pics, but it worked.

That’s the vibe—messy car, open road, no filter.

PCH is still my top for scenic road trips across the U.S. Big Sur part especially. Those drops to the water are beautiful and terrifying. Stopped at Bixby Bridge forever, sun setting, feeling tiny.

Look at that thing—pure magic. But I drove foggy sections once and regretted everything. Tip: don’t. Eat seafood, pull over often, don’t be me and try to push through.

Route 66: Spray Paint and Desert Weirdness
Route 66 is all nostalgia and randomness. Cadillac Ranch was a highlight—cars half buried, people spraying paint everywhere.

It’s chaotic fun. I got paint on my shoes, talked to strangers, loved it. But gas stations are far apart—don’t cut it close like I did.

Glacier’s road is nuts—lakes, peaks, narrow drops. Summer trip, no bears luckily.
