ugh okay breathtaking hiking trails are still on my brain nonstop even though its march and im supposed to be adulting but instead im googling permits again. im in my denver apartment rn, window cracked cuz its finally warming up a bit, but theres still snow patches outside and my boots are muddy from last weekend’s quick jaunt. feet hurt, coffee’s gone cold twice already. anyway these are my top 10 breathtaking hiking trails for 2025 – ones that actually kicked my ass and made me feel alive, mostly in the US cuz thats where i live and hike lol. some i did recently-ish, some older trips, but all stuck with me.
Why These Breathtaking Hiking Trails Keep Me Coming Back in 2025 (Even When I Swear I Won’t)
Trails humble you quick. crowds bigger now, weather flipping crazy, and dont get me started on lottery systems. i once forgot my permit printout for a popular one – had to turn around, drive back to town, print at library, drive back. wasted half day but still worth it. always check forecasts twice, pack too much water, and maybe dont hike alone if youre clumsy like me.
1. The Wave, Coyote Buttes North – Arizona
this place looks photoshopped irl. those red swirling rocks? insane. i won the lottery once (miracle), hiked at dawn, light hitting everything perfect. almost slipped on slickrock tho, heart stopped for a sec. permits brutal, hit up BLM site here.

2. Angels Landing – Zion National Park, Utah
chains + sheer drops = me questioning every decision. gripping those cables like life depended on it (it did), i was sweating bullets the whole way, but summit made me forget the terror.

3. Teton Crest Trail – Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
multi-day magic with lakes that look like mirrors for the tetons. camped by one, woke up to frost and insane sunrise. bugs ate me alive one night cuz forgot net – dumb. worth every blister tho.

4. Half Dome – Yosemite National Park, California
cables section is no joke. slipping a bit, gloves not gripping great, but panorama at top? unreal. i stood there arms out like idiot tourist pic, valley way below. banged shin coming down but laughed later.

5. Highline Trail – Glacier National Park, Montana
wildflowers exploding, goats just vibing like they own the ridge. saw a bunch close up, froze cuz bear spray was buried in pack. views of glaciers and valleys – pure.

6. Bright Angel Trail to Plateau Point – Grand Canyon, Arizona
down easy, up hell. canyon colors layering forever, river tease at bottom. pushed too hard once, got lightheaded – sat forever chugging water. learn from my stupidity.
7. Devils Bridge – Sedona, Arizona
quick out-and-back but standing on that arch at sunrise? feels epic.
8. Emerald Lake Trail – Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
my go-to when i need reset. lake color crazy turquoise, peaks sharp behind.

9. Skyline Trail – Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
rainier dominating everything, meadows on fire with color in summer. thunderstorm rolled in once, hid under overhang – felt tiny and electric.
10. Appalachian Trail Sections (Grayson Highlands) – Virginia/North Carolina
ponies everywhere, misty views like fantasy. hiked in rain, boots caked mud, but those balds and horses wandering free? worth soaked socks.
these breathtaking hiking trails arent instagram perfect all the time – theyre sweaty, scary, sometimes stupid mistakes included – but thats why they matter. they make you feel something real. for 2025 just start with one, get permits sorted early (dont be me), pack right. whats your trail obsession this year? comment below, seriously wanna hear cuz im already plotting my next dumb adventure. get out there even if its messy. the good stuffs in the chaos. go hike.
