Alright, family-friendly beaches—yeah that’s exactly what I’ve been obsessed with lately because last weekend we hit one and I’m still shaking sand out of my shoes like three days later. I’ve actually been to most of these (or close enough versions) right here in the US, and let me tell you some trips were magic and others… well let’s just say I learned why you never skimp on the bug spray in certain spots. Anyway here we go, rambling as usual.
1. Clearwater Beach, Florida – Sunsets That Make You Forget the Drive
We did Clearwater last year and wow the Gulf water is like bathwater almost, super shallow forever so my youngest could toddle around without me panicking every second. Pier 60 does this whole sunset thing with music and performers—kept the kids from whining when it was time to pack up. I messed up day one forgetting water bottles, everyone was grumpy by noon lol. Great spot though, check more here.

2. Coronado Beach, California – So Wide You Can Lose the Kids (But Dont)
Coronado near San Diego has this huge flat beach perfect for running around or kites—my son flew one so high it almost got stuck in a palm tree. Waves gentle enough for first-time boogie boarding. Hotel del is fancy but we just day-tripped it. Lost my keys in the sand once—classic. More info here.

3. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina – Bikes > Driving Everywhere
Hilton Head is low-key winner for me—rent bikes and cruise the paths instead of fighting traffic. Beaches wide and clean, water warm. Did a dolphin cruise that actually showed dolphins! I fell off my bike in front of strangers—embarrassing but kids laughed so hard. Check it here.
4. Outer Banks, North Carolina – Dunes and Lighthouses = Kid Heaven
OBX has that wilder feel with big dunes at Jockey’s Ridge—sliding down them is like free entertainment. Beaches like Nags Head have guarded areas and calmer spots. We tent camped once; the stars were insane but mosquitoes were next level. Link for planning: Outer Banks stuff.
5. Siesta Beach, Florida – Sand So Cool It Feels Fake
Quartz sand at Siesta stays cool even when its 95 degrees—huge win for little bare feet. Shallow water, playground close by. We did a family burial contest; pics are gold. See why its ranked high here.
6. Ocean City, Maryland – Boardwalk + Beach = Classic Chaos
Ocean City boardwalk is old school fun—arcades, mini golf, those famous fries. Beach is free, guarded, good for splashing. Kids rode the little train thing like 20 times. More deets here.

7. Santa Monica Beach, California – Pier Energy Without the Overwhelm
Santa Monica Pier with the Ferris wheel and under-pier aquarium—kids lose their minds. Wide beach for chilling or volleyball. Family-Friendly Beaches Churros at sunset hit different. Check this.
8. Gulf Shores, Alabama – Affordable and Chill Gulf Vibes
White sand, emerald water, state park trails if they get bored. Nearby waterpark saved us one hot afternoon. Family-Friendly Beaches Food’s cheap too—shrimp po’boys for days. Info here.
9. Cape Cod, Massachusetts – That New England Summer Feel
Cape Cod bayside spots like Nantucket Sound are calmer. Whale watches were a highlight. Lobster rolls and mini-golf—peak vacation. More here.
10. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Attractions Overload (Good Kind)
Myrtle’s got the boardwalk, SkyWheel, endless mini-golf. Long beach for everyone. Broadway at the Beach day was nuts but fun. See here.
